Installation Steps

1. Prepare the Vehicle

  • Park on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and disconnect the negative battery cable.
  • Loosen the front lug nuts and lift the vehicle with a jack if under-vehicle access is required.

2. Remove the Center Console

  • All Models:
    • Pry off the console trim panels using trim removal tools.
    • Remove screws securing the console and lift it out, disconnecting any wiring harnesses (e.g., USB, climate controls).

3. Disconnect Components

  • Manual Transmission Models:
    • Remove the shift lever knob and boot.
    • Detach the shift cables from the lever using snap pins or retaining clips.
  • Automatic Transmission Models:
    • Disconnect the shift lock cable from the brake pedal and lever.
    • Remove the shift cable from the lever (marked “Select” or “Shift”).

4. Remove the Old Shift Lever Base

  • All Models:
    • Remove the mounting bolts securing the shift lever base to the floor (typically 10mm or 12mm).
    • Lift the base out, noting the orientation of any brackets or bushings.

5. Install the New Shift Lever Base

  • Align the new base with the floor mounts and secure it with bolts. Tighten to 8.8–13.7 N·m (6.5–10.1 lb-ft) (verify specs for your model).
  • Reconnect shift cables, ensuring they are seated properly. Use new snap pins if needed.

6. Adjust Cables (Automatic Models)

  • Set the shift lever and transmission manual control lever to Neutral (N).
  • Push the cable toward the front of the vehicle to eliminate slack, then tighten the adjusting nut to 7.8–11.8 N·m (5.8–8.7 lb-ft).
  • Test shifting through all gears to ensure smooth operation.

7. Reinstall the Console and Test

  • Place the center console back into position and secure with screws.
  • Reconnect wiring harnesses and test electrical components (e.g., USB ports, climate controls).
  • Start the engine and verify gear engagement in all positions (P, R, N, D).
