Installation Steps

 1: Preparation

  1. Gather Tools: Phillips-head screwdriver, socket set, electrical tape, and a replacement multifunction switch.
  2. Safety Precautions:
    • Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait 10 minutes for the airbag system to discharge.
    • Wear gloves and safety glasses.
    • Place a towel on the steering wheel to prevent scratches.

 2: Remove the Old Switch

  1. Remove the Airbag Module:
    • Locate two small holes on the back of the steering wheel.
    • Insert a small tool (e.g., flathead screwdriver) into the holes to release the airbag retaining clips.
    • Disconnect the horn and airbag connectors, then set the airbag aside face-up.
  2. Remove the Steering Wheel:
    • Unscrew the steering wheel mounting nut (torque: 40–50 Nm).
    • Use a steering wheel puller to remove the wheel.
  3. Access the Multifunction Switch:
    • Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds using Phillips screws.
    • Disconnect the clock spring and horn connectors.
  4. Detach the Switch:
    • Remove the 3 screws securing the multifunction switch to the steering column.
    • Unplug all electrical connectors (wiper, headlight, turn signal, etc.).
    • Slide the old switch out from the column.

 3: Install the New Switch

  1. Align and Secure:
    • Position the new switch on the steering column and fasten it with the mounting screws (torque: 4–6 Nm).
    • Ensure the clock spring is aligned to its neutral position (follow the alignment marks).
  2. Reconnect Electrical Connectors:
    • Plug in all connectors securely, ensuring they click into place.
  3. Reassemble Components:
    • Replace the steering column shrouds and tighten the screws.
    • Reinstall the steering wheel (verify alignment and torque the nut).
    • Reattach the airbag module with new mounting bolts (torque: 0.8–1.1 kgf·m).

 4: Test and Calibrate

  1. Reconnect the Battery:
    • Reattach the negative battery terminal.
  2. Test Functions:
    • Turn on the ignition and test all wiper speeds, washer spray, headlights, turn signals, and horn.
    • Check the SRS indicator light; it should turn off after 6 seconds.
  3. Troubleshooting:
    • If the airbag light remains on, use a diagnostic tool to clear codes.
