Installation Steps

 1: Prepare the Vehicle

1. Park and Secure:
   • Park on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and use wheel wedges.
2. Disconnect Battery:
   • Remove the negative battery terminal to avoid electrical issues.

 2: Remove the Old Lever Handle

1. Access the Lever:
   • Remove the floor console (if equipped) by unscrewing retaining bolts and lifting it out.
   • Disconnect any electrical connectors (e.g., parking brake switch) and remove trim panels blocking access.
2. Detach Cables and Hardware:
   • Loosen the parking brake cable adjuster nut to relieve tension.
   • Remove the lever handle mounting bolts (typically 10mm or 12mm).
   • Slide the old handle off the lever shaft.

 3: Install the New Lever Handle

1. Position the New Handle:
   • Align the new handle with the lever shaft and secure it with mounting bolts. Tighten to 19.6–29.4 N·m.
2. Reconnect Cables and Electricals:
   • Attach the parking brake cables to the lever and adjust the cable retainer.
   • Reconnect the parking brake switch connector and ensure continuity (test with a multimeter: continuity when lever is pulled, no continuity when released).
3. Lubricate Moving Parts:
   • Apply grease to the ratchet plate, pawl, and cable ends for smooth operation.

4: Adjust the Parking Brake Stroke

1. Cable Adjustment:
   • Turn the adjuster nut to set the lever stroke to 5–7 clicks when pulled with 196 N (20 kgf) force.
   • Ensure the rear wheels spin freely when the lever is fully released.
2. Brake Shoe Clearance:
   • If replacing brake shoes, adjust their clearance first (rotate adjuster until the wheel resists turning, then back off 3–5 notches).

5: Test and Finalize

1. Functional Test:
   • Fully engage the lever to ensure the vehicle holds on a 20% incline.
   • Verify the parking brake warning light functions correctly.
2. Reassemble Components:
   • Install the floor console and any removed trim panels.
3. Battery Reconnection:
   • Reconnect the battery and test all electrical systems.
