Installing your new crossbars is straightforward. Follow these steps for a secure and stable setup.
1. Safety First & Tools Ready
Park your Sorento on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Wear gloves (and ideally safety glasses). Gather your socket wrench set, screwdrivers (flat & Phillips), and a torque wrench (highly recommended for precise tightening). Ensure all crossbar kit parts are present and in good condition.
2. Installation Process
- Inspect & Clean: Examine your Sorento's roof for any damage and clean the installation area thoroughly. Check crossbars and brackets for defects and ensure they fit your Sorento's roof rails.
- Attach Brackets to Crossbar: Slide the mounting brackets onto the crossbar, ensuring correct orientation. Lightly tighten any securing screws for now.
- Position on Roof: Carefully lift the assembled crossbar onto the roof, aligning the brackets with your Sorento's roof rails. Adjust width if necessary for a snug fit.
- Secure Crossbar: Insert fasteners (screws, bolts) through the brackets into the roof rails. Tighten fasteners from the center outwards, alternating sides. Use a torque wrench to meet specific instructions. Repeat for the second crossbar, ensuring both are parallel and evenly spaced.
3. Final Checks
- Visual Inspection: Confirm both crossbars are straight, evenly aligned, and flush with the roof.
- Security Check: Gently tug on the crossbars in different directions to ensure they are firmly attached and don't wiggle. Re-tighten any loose fasteners.
- Weight Capacity: Remember your crossbars have a typical 165 lbs weight limit. Do not exceed this to prevent damage and ensure safety.
