Installation Steps

1. Pre - installation Preparations

  • Gather Tools: You'll need a socket set, a torque wrench, a fuel line disconnect tool, a flat-head and Phillips - head screwdriver, a fuel pressure gauge (optional but useful), and safety equipment such as gloves and safety glasses.
  • Fuel System Depressurization: Before starting any work on the fuel system, relieve the fuel pressure. Locate the fuel pump relay in the fuse box, usually in the engine compartment or under the dashboard. Remove the relay and start the engine. Let it run until it stalls, which indicates that the fuel pressure has been reduced. Then, turn the ignition off and reinstall the relay.
  • Vehicle Preparation: Park the vehicle on a flat, stable surface. Engage the parking brake and turn off the engine. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent any electrical shorts.

2. Remove Components Blocking Access

  • Air Intake System: If the air intake system obstructs access to the high - pressure fuel pump, remove the necessary components such as the air filter housing, intake ducts, and any associated sensors or hoses. Use the appropriate screwdrivers and sockets to loosen and remove the fasteners.
  • Engine Covers: Remove any engine covers that are in the way. This may involve removing screws or clips. Keep track of all removed parts.

3. Disconnect Fuel Lines

  • Identify Fuel Lines: Locate the high - pressure fuel lines connected to the fuel pump. There will typically be an inlet line and an outlet line.
  • Use Fuel Line Disconnect Tool: Carefully use the fuel line disconnect tool to release the connections between the fuel lines and the pump. Be prepared for a small amount of fuel to spill, so have a rag handy. Place the rag around the connection to catch any fuel.

4. Disconnect Electrical Connectors

  • Locate Connectors: Find the electrical connectors attached to the high - pressure fuel pump. These connectors may have locking tabs.
  • Release Connectors: Press or release the locking tabs and gently pull the connectors off the pump.

5. Remove the Old High - Pressure Fuel Pump

  • Locate Mounting Bolts: Identify the mounting bolts that secure the high - pressure fuel pump to the engine.
  • Remove Bolts: Use a socket wrench to remove these bolts. Keep the bolts in a safe place.
  • Remove the Pump: Carefully lift the old high - pressure fuel pump out of its mounting position.

6. Install the New High - Pressure Fuel Pump

  • Clean the Mounting Area: Use a clean rag to wipe the mounting area on the engine to remove any debris or dirt.
  • Position the New Pump: Place the new high - pressure fuel pump in the same position as the old one. Align the bolt holes.
  • Install Mounting Bolts: Insert the mounting bolts and hand - tighten them initially. Then, use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to the manufacturer - specified torque settings.

7. Reconnect Electrical Connectors

  • Connect Connectors: Attach the electrical connectors to the new high - pressure fuel pump. Make sure they are properly seated and the locking tabs engage.

8. Reconnect Fuel Lines

  • Attach Fuel Lines: Carefully connect the high - pressure fuel lines to the new pump. Push the lines onto the fittings until they click or are firmly seated. You may need to use a bit of force, but be careful not to damage the lines.

9. Reinstall Blocking Components

  • Air Intake System: Put back the air intake system components, including the air filter housing, intake ducts, and sensors. Tighten all fasteners securely.
  • Engine Covers: Reinstall the engine covers and ensure they are properly in place.

10. Reconnect the Battery

  • Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

11. Check for Leaks and Test

  • Turn on the Ignition: Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position (but do not start the engine) for a few seconds. This will allow the fuel pump to pressurize the system. Check around the fuel pump and fuel lines for any signs of fuel leaks.
  • Start the Engine: If there are no leaks, start the engine. Let it idle for a few minutes and continue to check for leaks. Monitor the engine's performance to ensure it is running smoothly.

Perfect Fit and Easy Install

I had a P0087 code on my 2013 Kia Sorento and figured it was time to replace the high-pressure fuel pump. I found this one on the site and decided to give it a try. The pump arrived quickly and was packaged well. Installation was straightforward and it was a direct replacement—no modifications needed. After installing it and clearing the code, my car has been running perfectly. The engine feels smoother and more responsive. Great quality and a fair price.
