Installation Steps

1. Prepare the Vehicle

  • Park on level ground, engage the parking brake, and disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Allow the engine to cool completely.

2. Locate the CKPS

  • Rio/Forte :
    • On the engine block near the crankshaft pulley or flywheel housing (driver’s side).
  • Soul :
    • Behind the timing cover or near the transmission bell housing (may require partial disassembly).

3. Remove the Old Sensor

  • Disconnect Wiring:
    • Unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.
  • Remove Mounting Bolt(s):
    • Use a 10mm or 12mm socket to loosen and remove the sensor retaining bolt(s).
  • Extract the Sensor:
    • Gently pull the sensor straight out. Note its orientation for reinstallation.

4. Install the New Sensor

  • Clean the Area:
    • Wipe debris from the sensor hole and mating surfaces with a dry cloth.
  • Apply Thread Sealant (Optional):
    • Apply a small amount to the sensor threads to prevent oil leaks.
  • Align and Secure:
    • Insert the new sensor into the hole, ensuring it aligns with the crankshaft’s reluctor wheel.
    • Hand-tighten the bolt(s), then torque to specifications:
      • Rio/Forte: 8–12 N·m (6–9 lb-ft).
      • Soul: Check the owner’s manual for exact torque.

5. Reconnect and Test

  • Reattach Wiring:
    • Plug the electrical connector back into the sensor.
  • Reconnect Battery:
    • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Test Engine Start:
    • Start the engine and check for smooth operation.
    • Use an OBD-II scanner to clear any remaining trouble codes
