Installation Steps

1. Prepare the Vehicle

  • Park on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and chock the wheels.
  • Loosen lug nuts slightly before lifting the vehicle. Use jack stands for support.

2. Remove the Wheel

  • Remove lug nuts and wheel. Set aside.

3. Detach the Brake Caliper

  • Front Brakes (All Models):
    • Remove two caliper bracket bolts (14mm). Hang the caliper with a wire to avoid stressing the brake line.
  • Rear Brakes (Forte/Spectra):
    • For Forte, remove two 14mm bolts and hang the caliper.
    • For Spectra, use a 14mm socket to remove bolts, and use a 17mm wrench to stabilize the guide pins if they spin.

4. Remove the Old Brake Disc

  • Tap the disc with a mallet to loosen. Clean rust/debris on the hub with a wire brush.

5. Inspect and Prepare Components

  • Check hub, caliper, and pads for damage. Replace worn parts.
  • Rear Brakes (Forte/Spectra): Use a C-clamp or piston tool to compress the caliper piston. For Spectra, rotate the piston clockwise while pushing (special tool recommended).

6. Install the New Brake Disc

  • Align the new disc with the hub. Secure temporarily with a lug nut.

7. Reinstall the Caliper and Pads

  • Front Brakes (All Models):
    • Place the caliper over the new disc. Tighten bracket bolts to 21.6–31.4 N·m (15.9–23.1 lb-ft).
    • Lubricate guide pins and install new pads.
  • Rear Brakes (Forte/Spectra):
    • For Forte, ensure the wear indicator bar on the inner pad aligns correctly.
    • For Spectra, rotate the piston to align with the pad’s center lobe before reinstalling the caliper.

8. Torque Lug Nuts

  • Reinstall the wheel and tighten lug nuts in a star pattern. Lower the vehicle and torque to 88.3–107.9 N·m (65.1–79.6 lb-ft).

9. Test the Brakes

  • Pump the brake pedal several times to build pressure.
  • Test drive at low speed to ensure smooth operation and no noise.

Finally fixed my brake noise issue!

I drive a 2018 Kia Forte, and for the past few months, my brakes have been making a horrible screeching sound, especially when it's raining.
