Which MG4 charging port cover do you need?
An inlet cap, an exterior charging flap and a rain shield solve different problems. Decide which part you mean before comparing listings; a tidy-looking accessory cannot repair a broken hinge or charging lock.
The MG Australia MG4 EV handbook places the charging inlet behind the rear-left door. It describes a Type 2 AC connection and a combined CCS connection for rapid charging, with separate attention to the lower plug cover.
| Part | What you are buying | Key buying check |
|---|---|---|
| Inlet cap | A removable cover fitted to the socket between sessions | Interface shape, dimensions and retention |
| Exterior flap or trim | A body part, or an overlay on the existing flap | Exact body shape, hinge or adhesive layout |
| Connected-cable weather shield | A different accessory intended around a cable during use | Its own operating instructions and cable clearance |
If the original protection works properly, keeping it is a reasonable option. Consider another part when you have identified a specific need, rather than assuming every MG4 needs an extra cover.
Type 2, CCS2 or GB/T: which option?
Use the actual inlet and delivery market as your starting point. The Australian handbook provides a better reference than an overseas listing that happens to mention MG4 or Mulan.
There is a particularly easy ordering mistake on our product page: the option labelled MG 4 EV (GB/T Standard) names the vehicle but specifies a different interface. Do not select it for a Type 2 socket simply because “MG4” appears in the label.

| Actual inlet | Option to check | What to confirm next |
|---|---|---|
| Type 2 / CCS2 upper socket | Universal EU Standard Port Cover (CCS2 / Type 2) | Upper-socket dimensions and door clearance |
| GB/T AC | MG 4 EV (GB/T Standard) | GB/T AC shape; do not substitute it for Type 2 |
| J1772 / Type 1 AC | Universal North America Port Cover (J1772 / Type 1) | The actual interface, not the country label alone |
The MG4 EV Urban brochure separately specifies CCS Type 2. That confirms the interface family; it does not prove that every earlier MG4 accessory clears the Urban’s surrounding bodywork.
Record the exact vehicle line as well as the year. For an imported car, send a clear inlet photograph instead of relying on Australian-market assumptions.
What proves a cover physically fits?
A matching connector name is necessary, but it is not the whole fitment check. The cover must seat properly, remain secure and let the exterior door close without pressure.
Compare the seller’s drawing with the visible inlet surround. Keep track of where each measurement is taken: an outside cap width is not necessarily the width of its seating surface.
- Interface: compare the outline and contact layout in a clear, straight-on photo.
- Seating area: check the cap’s contact surface and available surrounding space; keep measuring tools away from electrical contacts.
- Door clearance: account for the cap’s depth, existing covers and any retaining loop.
- Condition: note damaged plastic, a loose hinge or a cap already missing from the original assembly.
Send the year, model or Urban designation, delivery market and inlet photo together. Ask the supplier to identify the exact option and explain how the cap seats, rather than accepting a reply that only repeats the vehicle name.
“Universal” can describe an interface-based accessory. It does not guarantee every vehicle’s surrounding clearance, and it does not by itself make a matched cap unsuitable. The physical checks decide.
Choose a relevant MG4 inlet cap
Our Type 2 charging inlet cap option is the relevant product to check for a matching socket. The listing specifies TPR, an adhesive-free push-fit and upper-section coverage; a separate lower DC cap is not included.
EV AC Charging Port Cover — Type 2 option
Select the interface shown on your vehicle. Confirm fit before ordering.
Compare the selected option’s price, not just the lowest price displayed on a multi-variant page. Also check the currency selected for your market, delivery terms and the applicable returns policy at checkout.
For other accessories, browse our MG4 parts and accessories collection. Choose additional parts for a separate need; window visors, brake parts and body decals are not evidence that an inlet cover fits.
How should you fit and use it?
Use the following sequence for this removable cap, with the charging cable disconnected. Stop if fitting it requires force or changes how the factory door closes.
- Identify the socket. Compare it with the selected product option before unpacking or modifying anything.
- Inspect the surrounding area. Check for loose dirt, moisture or damage and follow your vehicle’s care instructions.
- Check the fit. Align the cap, seat it as instructed and inspect its edges rather than forcing a mismatch.
- Close the outer door. Confirm it latches normally, with no trapped retaining loop or added pressure.
- Prepare for charging. Remove the accessory before connecting the charging cable and follow the car’s normal charging procedure.
- Finish the session. Disconnect as instructed, inspect the area, and restore the appropriate covers and outer door.
MG’s handbook instructs owners to remove excess water from the port area before connecting equipment. A protective accessory should complement normal care; it is not a reason to ignore moisture or debris.
Neither the words “waterproof” nor a snug appearance establish an immersion or pressure-wash rating. Keep the purchase decision focused on the intended use, and ask for test information if a stronger protection claim matters to you.
What about the MG warranty?
A non-invasive fitting method is not a manufacturer warranty approval. The relevant distinction is between the accessory itself, a fault it causes and an unrelated vehicle fault.
MG Australia’s warranty policy excludes non-genuine parts and accessories, and faults resulting from their use. Its current published policy states that it applies to relevant vehicles first registered from 1 July 2025, subject to exceptions and offers.
For an earlier car, check its own warranty and service booklet. Keep the order details, selected option and fitment correspondence; these are more useful for a specific enquiry than a general claim that an accessory is “warranty-safe”.
If charging performance is your separate concern, our MG4 charging-speed article covers that topic. An inlet cap should be chosen for fit and its intended protective role, not to increase charging speed.
MG4 charging port cover FAQ
Which charging port cover should I choose for an Australian MG4?
Start with the Type 2 option for a Type 2 inlet, then compare the actual socket and cap dimensions. Supply your model year, vehicle line and an inlet photo before ordering if anything is unclear.
Should I select the option labelled MG 4 EV GB/T Standard?
Only if your vehicle actually has a GB/T AC inlet. The model name in that option does not make it suitable for an Australian Type 2 inlet.
Does the Type 2 cap cover the entire CCS2 socket?
No. This option covers the upper AC section; the lower DC contacts are separate. Check their existing factory cover rather than assuming the whole socket is protected.
Can I leave an inlet cap on while charging?
Remove this accessory before connecting an AC or DC charging plug. An inlet cap used between sessions is different from a weather shield designed around an already connected cable.
Can this cap fix a broken charging flap or locking mechanism?
No. A damaged exterior flap, hinge or charging lock needs the correct repair route. A push-fit inlet cap is not a replacement body panel or a charging fault repair.
Will an aftermarket cover affect my MG warranty?
MG Australia excludes non-genuine accessories and faults caused by them from its warranty. That does not establish that fitting any accessory cancels every warranty claim. Check the policy applicable to your vehicle and ask MG about a specific concern.
Can I assume an older MG4 cover fits the MG4 EV Urban?
No. An interface name is only the first check. Confirm the Urban inlet surround, available space, cap dimensions and door clearance separately before buying.
