Installation Steps

 1: Prepare the Vehicle

1. Park and Secure:
   • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
   • Use wheel wedges to secure the front wheels.
2. Disconnect Battery:
   • Remove the negative battery terminal to avoid electrical hazards.
3. Lift the Vehicle:
   • Raise the rear of the vehicle and secure it with stands. Remove both rear wheels.

 2: Access the Parking Motor Module

1. Locate the Module:
   • The parking motor module is typically mounted near the rear brake calipers or integrated into the electronic parking brake (EPB) system.
   • On 2015 Sorento, it may be located under the vehicle near the rear differential or inside the cabin near the handbrake lever.
2. Remove Obstructions:
   • Detach any covers, brackets, or wiring harnesses blocking access to the module.

 3: Remove the Old Motor Module

1. Disconnect Electrical Connector:
   • Unplug the wiring harness from the module.
2. Remove Mounting Bolts:
   • Use a socket wrench to remove the bolts securing the module to the vehicle frame or caliper.
3. Detach Mechanical Linkages:
   • If connected to the handbrake cable or lever, carefully disconnect the mechanical linkages.

 4: Install the New Motor Module

1. Position the New Module:
   • Align the new module with the mounting points and secure it with bolts. Tighten to the specified torque (refer to the service manual, typically 19.6–29.4 N·m).
2. Reconnect Electrical and Mechanical Parts:
   • Plug in the wiring harness and reattach any mechanical linkages (e.g., handbrake cable).
3. Lubricate Moving Parts:
   • Apply grease to the cable ends and lever arms to ensure smooth operation.

 5: Programming and Calibration

1. Use Diagnostic Tool:
   • Connect the diagnostic tool to the OBD-II port and access the EPB system.
   • Follow the tool’s prompts to reset the module and calibrate the parking brake.
2. Test the System:
   • After programming, test the parking brake function to ensure it engages and releases smoothly.

 6: Adjust and Test

1. Brake Shoe Clearance Adjustment:
   • If the rear brake shoes were disturbed, adjust their clearance using a screwdriver and a brake drum adjustment tool.
   • Rotate the adjuster until the wheel is slightly resistant to turning, then back off 5 notches.
2. Parking Brake Stroke Adjustment:
   • Inside the vehicle, adjust the handbrake lever’s stroke using the adjuster nut near the lever. Aim for 5–6 clicks of travel when fully engaged.
3. Functional Test:
   • Lower the vehicle and test the parking brake on a 30% incline to ensure it holds securely.
